Te amo, te abrazo, Leo contigo

Tonight my featured book choice is going to be one of my current favorites at home- "Te amo, te abrazo, Leo contigo", written by Tish Rabe. This is a board book filled with messages of how much a parent loves their child, and the promises that follow from the parent, particularly, to always encourage a love of reading. One of the special qualities of this book is that it can be adapted for age- the main text consists of a sentence per page, in English and translated in Spanish. Yet at the bottom of every page are questions for the parent to ask the reader about the corresponding illustrations. This reinforces the child's understanding of the text and further fosters language development. Ideally with every book we should be encouraging our children to be active rather than passive readers- very often as an exhausted parent though, I have difficulty finding what questions to ask. Having some pre-set questions makes it that much easier for all of us!
