Dora's book of words / Libro de palabras de Dora

Following a post for those with advanced readers earlier this morning, here's a recommendation tonight for those who are learning beginner's Spanish. As we try to limit the amount of screentime as much as possible in our household, my daughter's main exposure to childhood characters such as Dora the Explorer comes through books. It is often hard however to find Dora books appropriate for her language level- there are many published in English with two or three words of Spanish in the rest of the text. Then those that are published solely in Spanish tend to have too much text that a toddler may lose focus quickly. Dora's word book is probably one of the best choices for introductory Spanish- it goes over beginner's vocabulary by having us travel with Dora and Boots to different places (i.e. the beach, farm, and library to name a few). The pages are set up so that isolated English words are initially on the page and then at the bottom is a pull tab which when pulled replaces each English word with the corresponding Spanish vocabulary. Families can therefore quiz themselves as they go along on word recall. There are probably 10-12 vocabulary terms per page for each of the different places that you will explore with Dora the Explorer, as well as a review chart of all the words in English and Spanish on the inside cover of the back of the book.
